Here I am at Netroots Nation, and I will get around to blogging more about content, but FIRST I need to spend less time and effort getting from one place to another. I’m parked near the Hilton, which is great, accessible, willing to share electricity, etc. BUT ….. check out my journey from the Hilton across the FUCKING street to the convention center this morning!

I first came to Austin more than ten years ago, and stayed at the fancy Hilton downtown in the tourist district. The EX-factor’s new employer was picking up the tab, which may explain why it’s been years until I stepped foot in the place this evening for Netroots Nation, the left-leaning conference of political bloggers and assorted other progressives and DFH’s.
Netroots Nation picks up exactly where Yearly Kos left off a year ago in Chicago — with orange bags and orange ID lanyards, and with similar panels and speakers. For at least the second year, caucus meetings for similar groups scheduled for the same times — one participant pointed out to me this evening that almost all Pacific Islanders are also Native Americans, and that many Asians fall into both groups, but that the caucus events for those groups are simultaneous.
So far, the biggest improvement (from my perspective) has to do with wheelchair accessibility. I was pleased to discover that the Hilton and the Convention Center are very close by, and that the bulk of the conference looks to be less spread out than in Chicago. Lots of reasonably priced restaurants very close by, and the Hilton is on several of the major bus lines.
I got a chance to meet up with two FDL firepups I met last year as well as a new one when I stopped by Thursday evening. Would love to meet any other Firepups, Trexicans, Hornies, and Scissorheads who are in attendance. Just email me!
